Bedrock · The sky the whole year agrees on

Weather Guard

One reading of the sky. It never decides what the rain does to you.

In the dairy year

Spring drilling wants one forecast, not six. Summer irrigation wants to know if rain is actually coming. The tablet Weather app should tell the same sky the crop consultant believes.

Without this core, companions each peek at the weather in their own way. They can disagree. That is a bad year to farm.

The feel

Weather Guard publishes the sky and never acts on it. Current conditions, the forward forecast the game really exposes (about nine days, then honest silence), and one weather-mode dial the host owns.

It is the twin of Time Guard. Time Guard owns when, never how much money. Weather Guard owns what the weather is, never what it does to your yield, your wages, or your prices. Those consequences stay with Soil, Crop Stress, labour, and markets.

RealisticWeather, if you run it, deepens the sky. This core still does not rewrite that mod. Remove it and the suite’s own climate model keeps the seasons honest on a shorter native horizon.

How it works

Companions ask for the current sky (rain, cloud, temperature, humidity, weather type) and for a forecast a given number of days ahead. If a value cannot be read, the answer is empty, not a quiet “dry” or “calm”. Humidity is the one exception: a ruled 0.5 floor, and even that is flagged as defaulted.

The native forecast horizon is about nine days. Past that, the getters stay silent. RealisticWeather does not deepen that horizon.

One admin dial, four positions, server-authoritative because one player’s choice changes everyone’s weather:

Position Meaning
1 Real weather only. Opts out of the grounded climate.
2 Arid
3 Normal (default)
4 Wet

Positions 2, 3, and 4 still let the real sky lead. The grounded climate only fills gaps (short months, past the forecast, no RealisticWeather). There is no “grounded only” position, because that would make the visible weather lie.

State Ledger persists the mode when present. Otherwise it writes RealisticFarming_WeatherGuard.xml. Network Sync carries the mode and the admin change. Settings Hub can hold the dial. Master HUD is not required. This core has no overlay of its own.

Console: wgStatus shows the mode, the live sky, the measured horizon, and five days of forecast reads.

How you use it

The outs

Crop Stress, Soil, the tablet, hired-labour rain premiums, and neighbour work plans should all ask this core when it is present. If it is absent they fall back. They must not invent a second official sky.

What you need

Optional bedrock. Highly recommended once two or more weather-reading companions share a save. Not a master pack.

How it connects

In the dairy year these sit next to this chapter. None are required.
